For the fourth year in a row, we’ve partnered with Dockside Green, who have provided a portion of their undeveloped site for us to grow amazing fresh produce.

In 2019 TOPSOIL is back transforming 20,000 square feet of the Dockside Green Waterfront Precinct alongside the Galloping Goose Trail, adjacent to the Bay Street Bridge. This season TOPSOIL will be supplying the produce grown at Dockside Green to our many local partner restaurants.

With TOPSOIL at Dockside Green centrally located to the downtown core, we can conveniently and consistently deliver produce to partner restaurants downtown or with our electric vehicle to partners who are further away, as well as showcase our triple bottom line operation to the people who walk and cycle past Dockside Green.

20,000 sq ft GrowSpace

TOPSOIL has grown from 9,000 sq ft to 20,000 sq ft, transforming undeveloped land at Dockside Green into a lush and productive urban agriculture space.

11.3 metric tons of produce

TOPSOIL has grown over 25,000 lbs or 11.3 metric tons of produce.

Many Crop Varieties

We’ve grown lots over the years: gourmet greens including arugula, chard, miszuna, spinach, kale, all the fresh herbs, cucumber, summer squash, radishes, turnips, potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, tomatoes and more!

5 tons of CO2 offset

We started by walking, then biking and now we are delivering produce to restaurants with an electric vehicle. Overall we have offset a whopping 5 tons of CO2!

50+ Educational Tours Hosted

We shared our journey, values and experiences through hosting educational tours to student groups ranging from Grade 6 through to university level.

Raised awareness to 100,000+ people

TOPSOIL at Dockside Green has exposed the concept of urban agriculture and raised food supply awareness to over 100,000 cyclists and 10,000 pedestrians who passed by the site.

Partnerships

We helped The Songhees Wellness Centre set up their own rooftop garden, and TOPSOIL at Dockside Green hosts a Long Table Series gourmet dining event.
